Foggy and Windy Lakeside Inn Artist Residency 2023: Wednesday, 4/5/23

Wednesday, day 3:

One second I could see the waves, the next, a thick wall of fog enveloped the area. It's not so bad now, but the storms today are pushing that air around! Patches of sun pass through for 15 minutes at a time to tease us and create humidity. Since the wind and fog aren't the greatest for plein air, or for views with any distance, today is about backgrounds and textures for a batch of paintings including works on paper designed for new greeting cards. I’ll poke a some beach paintings too, but the mellow, smooth spring fog doesn’t seem to fit with energetic, impressionistic brushstrokes…yet.

It takes a few days to adjust to an open schedule, with so many other things I do during the regular year, the looming cloud of “something else I need to do” hasn’t left yet; and so pacing myself properly for production is difficult. Leaving most responsibilities and house distractions behind makes me more aware of the distractions I bring with me.
